Starbucks

Flavor:

  • Starbucks seems to have a rich flavor to their coffee as well. Sometimes it has been a little more bitter compared to other coffee shops, but they never disappoint on the overall flavor. Since Starbucks has been open longer, they have many drinks I have yet to try, but here we are focusing on the coffee flavor. I have tried their black coffee as well as my regular order of an iceImage of a starbucks drink.d, vanilla latte. My latte was sweeter than Scooters’ coffee, and it wasn’t as tarte. Sometimes, depending on the person, that could be good or bad. As well as most coffee shops, Starbucks has many add-ins and are always creating new, colorful drinks. They go from the pink drink to smoothies to regular coffee. I would say this coffee shop has the most variety of drinks of any in Lincoln. If you are not aware, Starbucks has a “secret menu” that has drinks not shown on the menu. You could ask about a drink you have heard of at the coffee shop, or I’m sure there are menus online for it. Here is a link to a website on the secret menu.

Service:

  • This is solely dependent on which shop you visit and who is working that day. From the experiences I have had and read on other reviews, there is an overarching theme of an enjoyable interaction and experience with the workers and service. They get you your coffee quickly and rarely mess up orders. Also, with the Starbucks app you can order ahead and your drink will be ready for you when you arrive. There are different times during the day when the lines might be longer and you won’t be as pleased with the pace of things. As you can guess, that time period is usually during the mornings or sometimes when people get off work. Although you may have to wait a couple minutes longer, it is worth the wait.

Atmosphere:

  • As I have mentioned before, this really depends on which Starbucks you go to, but from the multiple Starbucks I have been to there is a professional feel to things. You will see that most of the times you go there will be people studying or talking quietly. This is something coffee shops are known for, but certain coffee shStarbucks coffee shop.ops accomplish this type of atmosphere more than others. The Starbucks I visited was 7020 O Street in Lincoln, NE (68510). It was an open-concept layout with lots of tables for working on projects, but the shop also has a small area with more comfortable chairs to converse. Overall, it is a quiet environment that gives coffee drinkers a pleasant place to visit.

History:

  • The very first Starbucks was opened in Seattle, Washington, on March 31, 1971. It was located at 2000 Western Avenue and it was moved later to 1912 Pike Place. From around 1971-1976, the shop only sold roasted beans, but did not brew their own coffee yet. The three partners to start it all—English teacher Jerry Baldwin, history teacher Zev Siegl, and writer Gordon Bowker—met at the University of San Francisco were inclined to begin a coffee business after conversing with Alfred Peet, who taught them his style of roasting beans. When picking a name for the business, they had a unique way of doing so. Terry Heckler, one of Bowkers partners in an advertising agency, thought that the letters “st” at the beginning of words had a powerful sound to them. The owners then proceeded to consider all of the words they could think of that started with those two letters. They eventually chose the word “Starbucks” because of the character in Moby Dick. Bowker explained, “Moby-Dick didn’t have anything to do with Starbucks directly; it was only coincidental that the sound seemed to make sense.” For a timeline of Starbucks’ history, check out the descriptive one on their website.
